Ginger Gaetz, wife of former Assemblyman Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), drew chuckles on social media Thursday following a post she made in support of her husband’s decision to withdraw from consideration for the next attorney general to become a general.

Gaetz took to X, formerly Twitter, to (?) celebrate her husband’s decision with a photo of the two of them on the steps of the US Capitol. She captioned it: “The end of an era.”

Gaetz also directly offered her support to her husband, saying, “No one loves America more than you” — plus heart-hands emoji, of course — on his post announcing his withdrawal.

Matt Gaetz married the former Ginger Luckey in August 2021, right around the time he was first investigated as part of a sex trafficking investigation. (Gaetz denied the allegations and was never charged, and the case was eventually dropped.)

His announcement on Thursday came just minutes before CNN published a report claiming he had a second sexual encounter with a 17-year-old girl in 2017. So people were a bit taken aback by the elegiac tone of his wife’s post.

And yes, there was snark.
