So when he saw Owusu-Koramoah’s neck tense during his collision with Ravens running back Derrick Henry, and then saw him strapped to the backboard and taken off on the stretcher, he knew better than most on the field what it felt like to see your career, health and life flash before your eyes.

Owusu-Koramoah was taken directly to the University Hospitals and remained there overnight for observation. The good news was that he had some loss of sensation in his extremities on the way there and was walking around when he was released the next morning, Kevin Stefanski revealed at his press conference on Monday.

But the Browns haven’t said much since then about Owusu-Koramoah, who was placed on injured reserve for at least four games and is likely lost for the season. As it stands, no one has said if he will be able to resume his NFL career, and at the very least, he will have to undergo another extensive series of scans before returning to the field.

“It was hard because we play this game because we love it,” Hicks said Wednesday. “We sacrifice our bodies for it and we understand the risks involved, but at the end of the day you see something like that and it’s real life. I look at my life and I have three kids and a wife at home and I think, what if I came home like this?

“And so he has family that he loves, people that care about him more than just what he can do on the field. And so it puts things into perspective and you hope and pray that he will make a miraculous recovery. And so, I don’t know, it’s just hard. It’s hard. But you rally around him and you rally around each other.”

Owusu-Koramoah is eligible to return to Pittsburgh on December 8, but all the Browns care about at this point is his health and well-being.
