Visakhapatnam’s young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is making headlines after making his debut in the ongoing first Test between Australia and India at the Optus Stadium in Perth in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Picked over Shardul Thakur, Reddy is poised to become the next big thing in Indian cricket as players of his category are extremely rare in the country.

After impressing everyone with his stellar performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, playing for SunRisers Hyderabad under the leadership of Pat Cummins, the all-rounder was awarded the Emerging Player of the Season.

With a whopping 303 runs from 11 innings and a batting average of 33.67, Nitish Reddy also managed two half-centuries. With the ball, he took three wickets in his previous edition.

The Andhra cricketer, who has played in 15 IPL matches so far, made his debut in IPL during the 2023 season where he was tried with the ball for two matches and ended up going wicketless in both matches without getting any chance to bat.

However, things changed dramatically in his second season in 2024 where he made thirteen appearances for his side and turned the fortunes in his favor. He was then quickly referred to the Indian side for the T20I series against Bangladesh where he also played in India he hit a free-flowing 74 in the second game.

Ahead of the 2023 season, Reddy was bought by the SRH management for his base price of ₹20 Lakhs and retained him for the 2024 season as well.

After his performance in the previous season, SRH management has again selected him as one of their five retainers for ₹6 Crores before the mega auctions. The other prominent names on the list include Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.
