49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s right shoulder injury has kept him from fully practicing this week, and general manager John Lynch said Friday that the quarterback had an MRI to make sure the injury was not worse than believed.

During an appearance on KNBR, Lynch announced that Purdy was going for the test, saying “we feel good about where things are from that standpoint.” That leaves the door open for Purdy to play Sunday against the Packers, but Lynch said Friday’s practice will be a key data point in the final decision on the quarterback’s availability.

‘We’ll see where he is todayHopefully he makes progress and we can have a chance this weekend,” Lynch said. ‘We’ll see. I think it’s weak.”

Lynch said Brandon Allen will be the starter if Purdy can’t play and Josh Dobbs will also be ready to play if needed.
