There are some casting decisions that feel like they’re written in the stars. Margot Robbie as BarbieLola Tung as The summer I became beautiful‘s Belly, and Pedro Pascal as Joel The last of us definitely make the list. What I never expected, however, was that Pedro Pascal would be in talks to join two of my other favorite actors. rom-com! (The other two actors did Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans, in case you were wondering). If you’re as excited about this new movie as I am but don’t know much about it, don’t worry: I’ve done all the research so you don’t have to.

Here’s Your First Official Look at Chris Evans and Dakota Johnson in ‘Materialists’

Vanity Fair just released a first look at a bunch of new movies coming out next year, but the one I was most looking forward to is of course Materialists. In the first look, Celine Song and Chris Evans are seen standing outside a New York apartment, while Dakota Johnson is in a summer dress and running shoes. I love that they laugh on set, and that Dakota is fully engaged in what Chris is saying. Although, if he were standing in front of me, that would be the look I would have on my face too.

Who is in the cast of Materialists?

Dakota Johnson told us at the Tribeca premiere of Dad how much she enjoyed working with Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans: “They’re both big idiots and I love them.”

When is Materialist coming out?

Materialists started filming in New York City in the spring of 2024, so we could see the film in the summer or fall of 2025.

Although we don’t have an official synopsis for Celine Song’s sequel Past livesit seems Materialists follows a professional matchmaker from NYC (probably played by Dakota Johnson), via Term. The matchmaker becomes involved with a wealthy man, but realizes she cannot shake her feelings for an actor-waiter from her past. Juicy! It gives a little It ends with usit gives a little bit of it Playing with matches. I’m all for it.

According to Merriam Webster, a materialist is someone who “has a preoccupation with or emphasis on material things rather than intellectual or spiritual matters.” This feels like an indication that we’ll see these characters have to figure out what’s important to them, and whether to prioritize material things or relationships.

Did A24 produce Past Lives?

Yes, A24 helped produce Celine Song’s directorial debut Past lives (which she also wrote). Past lives follows childhood friends Nora and Hae Sung, who reconnect twenty years after Nora’s family left South Korea. The week they spend together in New York will raise questions that they are both dealing with: about love, life and fate.

The film received rave reviews from both critics and the Brit + Co team and remains one of the finest contemporary films of recent years.

What else has Pedro Pascal been in?

While The last of us has catapulted Pedro Pascal even MORE into mainstream media, starring in several shows and films over the past twenty years. He was in an episode of 1999 Buffy the Vampire Slayerand played the recurring role of Oberyn Martell Game of Thrones. Pedro Pascal joined the Star Wars universe with The Mandalorian in 2019, and was also in my personal favorite movie of 2022, The unbearable weight of enormous talent.

Next to Materialistswe see him in the MCU‘S Fantastic Four And Gladiator 2. I would like his agent to organize my entire life, because those are insanely impressive time management skills.

What has Chris Evans been in?

You probably recognize it Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America in Marvel Studios’ superhero films, but he has also made a number of other films (including the 2005 film Fantastic Fourwhich is funny since Pedro Pascal is in the new episode). Chris Evans has amazing range and is into everything from the crazy Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to action-packed Snowpiercer to the mysterious Knives out of Ana de Armas.

If you are a fan of romantic dramas and haven’t seen this one yet Before we go (which is also Chris’s directorial debut), I absolutely recommend it. I’ve seen Chris in so many action movies that I loved how much room there is for the characters to get to know each other. Fingers crossed we see the same Materialists.

I also highly recommend it The Peanut Butter Falconwritten and directed by Outdoor benches born Tyler Nilson next to Michael Schwartz. The film follows a young man with Down syndrome who escapes from an assisted living facility and quickly befriends a fisherman who is on the run while a social worker (played by Dakota) tries to track them down.
