University professor and MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson warned that President-elect Donald Trump’s new choice to lead the Justice Department should cause “fear” among the left because it could actually carry out his agenda.

Trump announced Thursday evening that he is nominating former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as the next Attorney General of the United States. The latest Cabinet pick replaces former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who withdrew as his nominee for attorney general on Thursday after the “distraction” his nomination caused amid a whirlwind of allegations about paying underage women for sex.

Johnson told MSNBC host Ari Melber that this is bad news for those concerned about Trump.

“Occasionally, attorneys general try to act as if they are not the personal attorney of the President of the United States. That’s completely out the window. Pam Bondi is exactly what I said in the last segment that we should all fear because she is capable,” he said.

“We may not agree with her ideologically, but she actually knows how to do this job,” Johnson told Melber, adding: “So as someone on the Democratic side or someone who cared about freedom or justice, thought, “Maybe Matt Gaetz will.” screw this up and that will buy us time,” no.

He further told the news anchor that her association with Florida’s government indicates she knows how to use state power to advance conservative agendas.

‘She knows what she’s doing on immigration. Remember, Florida is one of those states that has been very aggressive when it comes to migrants and deportation and moving people to other states and all that kind of stuff. Florida has passed all kinds of rules and laws to restrict students. and what they can do on campuses and finding legal justifications for manipulating education dollars,” Johnson said.

He continued, “She’s a dangerous and effective choice, which is honestly worse than what we would have gotten with Matt Gaetz, even with the deplorable moral background he has.”

As Johnson mentioned, he had warned about the concept of a more experienced choice in a previous segment, arguing that this would be a much scarier choice for those wary of Trump’s agenda.

“That’s true, but I think from the perspective of, I never necessarily thought Matt Gaetz was a genuine choice. Trump can call it whatever he wants, but I suspect there were a lot of people lining up to come after him who won’t be as offensive, who could actually be more effective,” he said.

“So while it may be a loss in the battle, I don’t necessarily think it’s a victory in the war against what could be an AG who ushers in an authoritarian kind of presidency that erodes the fundamental rights of American citizens,” Johnson added to. .
