The story picks up where part 1 left off, with Jamie, Claire and Young Ian sailing back to Scotland. However, happy coming home Foreigner are fleeting, and the Frasers will be torn apart again when Lord John Grey’s nephew is wounded during the American Revolution. Jamie and Claire’s marriage will be tested like never before as they face the dangers of armed conflict.

Meanwhile, Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) are separated over time as Roger chases their son Jemmy through the stones. Viewers will also see favorites Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek) and Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) return for the second half of the season, which consists of eight episodes.

Executive producer Maril Davis said at New York Comic Con in October that episode 11 may be the most talked about, adding, “Bring your whiskey, your tissues, it’s pretty intense.”

She also prepared fans for a lot of drama, saying, “It’s such an emotional rollercoaster. Death, loss, redemption… everything takes place in the second half.”

Is ‘Outlander’ Season 8 the Final Chapter?

Season 8 will be Foreigner‘s final installment, with production on the eighth and final season beginning in March of this year and ending on September 27. The showrunners discussed the show’s conclusion with Gabaldon beforehand.

“We’re ending (the show) as we are, we just wanted to be respectful not to end it the way she (Gabaldon) might,” Davis said.

What did Gabaldon think? “It was interesting…I wasn’t upset by it,” she said. “It wasn’t something I wrote, so I’m very objective about it. It was well done, I think it will work very well.”

In a statement, Starz president of original programming Kathryn Busby said: “For almost a decade Foreigner has captured the hearts of audiences around the world and we are thrilled to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a close.

“But before we close this chapter, there’s still plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes and even more to discover about this dynamic world and origin story. We are thrilled to continue working with Matthew, Maril and Ronald and I can’t wait to see where their tantalizing stories take us.”
