Sixers’ Joel Embiid is now questionable against Brooklyn due to left knee injury management

Update, 8:27 PM: The Sixers announced that Joel Embiid is experiencing swelling in his left knee, which is why he did not play against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. He will also miss Sunday’s game against the LA Clippers before being re-evaluated next week.

Update: 6:30 PM: The Sixers have officially ruled out Joel Embiid for Friday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets.

While Nick Nurse said in his availability for the game that Embiid would go through his pre-game warm-up before making a decision, the usual routine, Embiid never got on the floor to warm up.

So the year from hell continues as the Sixers are back to one of their Big 3 with Tyrese Maxey still on a minutes restriction. The nurse did say he won’t be as limited as he was in Memphis on Wednesday night. With 68 games to go, there is no relief in sight for this team.

The Philadelphia 76ers are now 2-12 on the season, officially the worst record in the entire National Basketball Association. The latest tie in the dumpster fire was the team’s 117-111 loss at Memphis on Wednesday night. One of the few bright spots from that loss, however, was Joel Embiid approaches looks like his old self, with 35 points and 11 rebounds on the season. Perhaps another 30-10 streak, the greatest feat in modern sports, was in the making! At least leading up to Friday’s game against Brooklyn, this was a sign that things might be changing.

Cub…

To recap, the Sixers didn’t have a game on Wednesday night and won’t have a game tomorrow night either. Still, Joel Embiid is questionable due to injury management on that left knee. We expected, and even praised, things like this for back-to-backs this season, but for this issue to occur in an isolated match is extremely concerning. If playing a season-high 35 minutes in Memphis was too taxing on Joel’s knee, how can you be sure he’ll ever be back to normal?

Embiid was at the shootaround this morning but didn’t participate, so at least the time, if not the injury, management is on the rise.

Paul George will be out for at least the next two games due to a left knee contusion. Embiid may also be unavailable right now. What originally looked like a potential tie against the 6-9 Nets is looking increasingly fraught. After the optimism of two months ago, both the short- and long-term prospects for this Sixers franchise are now becoming more dangerous by the day.
