Kendrick Lamar raps about ‘letting Lil Wayne down’ after Super Bowl Halftime Show Snub

Kendrick Lamar feels like he disappointed one of his idols.

On Friday Dot launched his surprising 12-track project, GNX via pgLang and Interscope, and on the first track, ‘wacced out murals’, he laments how his success has affected Lil Wayne.

“I used to bump Tha Carter IIII held my Rollie chain proudly/Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down,” Kenny raps, later adding, “I got the Super Bowl and Nas is the only one congratulating me , all these n***as excited me I’m just happy it’s on their faces.”

After a colossal year in which Lamar’s feud with Drake spawned two No. 1 records — “Like That” and “Not Like Us” — and a massive, star-studded, one-off concert, “The Pop Out: Ken & Friends,” which was streamed on Amazon Music, Lamar was chosen to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans.

Kendrick’s announcement came as a huge blow to Wayne, especially since the next Super Bowl is in his hometown. Weezy expressed interest in headlining the halftime show for years. He later discussed the situation in a video: “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a disappointment and for just automatically putting myself in that position mentally, as if someone told me this was my position. So I give blame myself for that.”

There was major backlash from Kung Fu Kenny’s peers following his announcement, including Nicki Minaj, Cam’ron, Boosie Badazz, Birdman and more.

Elsewhere on ‘elaborate murals’, K. Dot also expressed shock at Drake’s ‘Taylor Made’ diss track where he used AI technology to rap from the perspective of Snoop Dogg and the late 2Pac.

“Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made’, I prayed it was the edibles / I couldn’t believe it, it was only right that I let it go,” Lamar raps in the second verse.

Lamar has been a fan of Wayne since his early years, way before that Tha Carter III‘s arrival in 2008, thus the reason why Kendrick feels like he “let Lil Wayne down.” In 2009, Dot even dropped the mixtape C4inspired by Tha Carter III and consisted of the native Compton’s freestyling Tha Carter III production.

A few years later, in 2016, Kendrick publicly responded to Wayne and hinted that he would retire from rap. “Talk about retiring and all that. Fuck that n***a. Retire, quit rap, whatever you wanna call it, n***a,” Kenny said in a video at the time.

During a live recording of Drinking champions at ComplexCon last weekend, Snoop Dogg weighed in on the Super Bowl controversy over Wayne and Kendrick. Snoop reasoned, “This is a big event. People watching everything when they pick the person to perform, you should just be honored that hip hop is on that platform for all of us and next time don’t hate.” .”
