Singer Khalid comes out of the closet after saying he was ‘outted’

Grammy-nominated singer Khalid opened up about his sexuality in a series of X-posts on Friday.

He first posted a rainbow flag emoji and wrote, “There y’all go. Next topic please lol.” In response to a user’s quote that said, “Wait, I hope Mr. Khalid isn’t GEHHH,” Khalid responded with his own quote, “I am! And that’s okay.”

“I got out and the world is still spinning,” the singer explained in a third X post in the space of 30 minutes. “Let’s get this straight (lmao). I’m not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality, it’s no one’s business! But I’m okay with it…I love you all.”

The “Eastside” singer, born Khalid Donnel Robinson, has always embraced LGBTQ aesthetics in his artistry and advocated for queer causes, such as when he recorded the song “Love Lies” with Normani for the Love, Simon soundtrack. But he has never publicly revealed his own sexual identity.

Before concluding with an “eight love everyone, thank you, I’m quitting,” Khalid urged a user who noted “the case was glass” that he was “not hiding anything!” It’s just none of your business.” Another I never hid.”

Khalid did not reveal who apparently “outed” him, and his representatives did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.

The 26-year-old singer made his debut in 2016 with the single ‘Location’, a hymn to young love that announced him as an important new voice in music. When artists like Lil Wayne and Kehlani appeared on “Location” remixes, it was clear that Khalid only needed one song to earn his rightful place in today’s pop landscape.
