It was a tough day for Joe Mazzulla and his crew Boston Celticsbecause they barely survived Washington Wizards to get another win in the NBA Cup group stage. Although his team came away with the win, Joe Mazulla won’t be completely happy as one technical error hit him during the third quarter of the game.
Jaylen Brown attempted a layup after faking Alex Sarr to challenge his shot.

Now Brown fought through a lot of contact and missed the shot, leading to a transition three for the Wizards. This did not go down well with Mazzulla, who attacked the referee and demanded a foul for his player. The Celtics coach was so excited he had to be restrained by Sam Cassell.
NBA referees never deal easily with hostility, so Mazzulla was immediately hit with a tech for his outburst. However, it’s worth noting that the Celtics played like they found a new purpose once their coach picked up a technology. Many believe that Joe did this on purpose to cheer up his team. This might even be true, as Boston ultimately went on a 12-4 run after Mazzulla’s tech.

Mazzulla explained after the match that his outburst tonight was not intended to energize the team. Instead, Joe wanted to do something about the atmosphere in the Wizards’ arena. He believes that his interaction with the referee actually produced results and ultimately changed the environment.
Regardless of what Mazzulla tried to do, his strategy seems to be paying off. Ultimately, the Celtics were able to close the game with a score of 108-96. Now they are behind only the Atlanta Hawks in their NBA Cup bracket and can get back to focusing on their regular season games.
