Football heads to Dartmouth on Saturday to wrap up the season

PROVIDENCE. RI – The Brown football team concludes the 2024 season Saturday afternoon with a trip to Dartmouth to take on the Big Green. Kickoff is at noon on ESPN+, NESN and the Learfield Varsity Network (BrownBears.com/Audio).

OPENING KICKOFF

  • Dartmouth can clinch a share of the Ivy League title for the fourth time in the past five seasons with a win combined with a loss at Harvard.
  • The Big Green are getting votes in this week’s AFCA FCS Top 25 poll after ranking 24th last week.

MAHONEY’S MONSTER GAMES

  • Brown’s top receiving target Mark Mahogany has posted season highs in catches and receiving yards over the past three weeks:
  • 7 catches for 85 yards and TD against Penn.
  • 10 catches for 115 yards and a TD at Yale.
  • 12 catches (career-high) for 120 yards vs. Columbia.
  • He has moved to seventh in the Ivy League with 67.4 yards per game through eight games. His five touchdown catches also rank tied for seventh.

COMPLETE THE OPTICK

  • Jake Willcox His completion percentage has topped 70 percent in three of the last four weeks — the only games all season — including his season-high of 72.5 percent last week against Columbia.
  • He completed 58.6 percent of his passes in the first five games (113-193), but in the last four games he completed 70.2 percent (120-171).

RED ZONE STORY

  • Brown enters the final week with the best red zone defense in the Ivy League by allowing scores on 74.4 percent of his opponents’ trips.
  • Offensively, Brown is fifth in the Ivy League in red zone scoring (86.1 percent).
  • In 36 trips to the red zone, Brown has scored 20 touchdowns, 17 of which came on the ground, the most rushing TDs in the red zone.

PLAYING CATCH UP

  • Brown got off to a slow start this season, being outscored 89-35 in the first quarter. Opponents scored first in seven of the nine games.
  • Brown has led for just 21 seconds in Ivy League games this season, all of which came against Harvard (only taking the lead in the Cornell game as time expired).

THE CHILD HAS IT!

  • Rookie tailback Matt Childs was one of 30 freshmen named to the Watch List for the Jerry Rice Award.
  • The award, presented by Stats Perform, is presented annually to the best first-year player in FCS Football.
  • His 42.7 receiving yards per game rank 14th in the Ivy League, while his 40.1 rushing yards per game rank 12th, with both marks leading among all Ivy rookies.

RARE COMPANY

  • Matt Childs trying to become just the fourth true freshman in program history to lead the team in rushing (361 total rushing yards).
  • The previous three are Marquis Jessie (728 in 1993), Darius Daies (276 in 2017) and Allen Smith (175 in 2018).

HEAD OF THE PACKAGE

  • Senior linebacker Caleb Moorhead ranks fourth in the Ivy League and 39th nationally with 1.06 tackles for loss per game. He led the league for several weeks earlier this season and was ranked 14th nationally going into the game against Cornell on Oct. 26.

APPROPRIATE ATTACK

  • The Bears lead the Ivy League and rank ninth in FCS in passing offense (282.6).
