Thanksgiving weekend may snow across Michigan

The National Weather Service says Michigan’s Lower Peninsula could see a snowy Thanksgiving weekend as temperatures drop to more seasonal highs.

Snow likely won’t start in southern Michigan until Thanksgiving, but snow accumulations could occur in the Upper Peninsula starting Sunday evening through Monday, the weather service said.

“Winter weather will begin this week, starting tonight,” the agency’s Marquette office said in an online post. “Expect slick roads during the Monday morning commute. Lake effect snow showers at Lake Superior Tuesday through the weekend will have at least some impact on Thanksgiving holiday travel.”

On the west side of the state, the Grand Rapids office said, “True winter weather will arrive in Lower Michigan later this week, and it could slow travel with slick roads, possibly through Thanksgiving, and then likely last through the long weekend.” with heavy lake effect snow in some areas.”

The weather forecast in southeastern Michigan predicts mild weather early in the week.

“Above normal temperatures early this week will turn colder by mid-week,” the NWS office in Detroit said online. “Rain returns on Monday, with a chance of snow over the extended holiday weekend.”

Will it snow in Detroit this week?

Rain is likely in Detroit Monday and Monday evening, the weather service said, with highs in the low 50s.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be partly to mostly cloudy, followed by rain again Wednesday night.

Rain may mix with snow on Thursday before turning completely to snow overnight.

There is a chance of snow on both Friday and Saturday, with highs around 30 degrees.

Will Northern Michigan get snow on Thanksgiving?

The Gaylord NWS office says it expects rain in northern Michigan on Monday.

On Monday night the snow will mix with rain and turn into just snow showers during the night.

Snow showers are possible from Tuesday to Saturday. The Gaylord area could see two inches of snow on Tuesday.

The Harbor Springs and Petoskey areas will see rain mixed with snow Sunday night through Tuesday. There is a chance of snow from Wednesday to Saturday.

The Cheboygan area will likely see rain through Monday before mixing with snow through Tuesday.

There is a chance of snow from Wednesday to Saturday.

Is snow expected in Western Michigan?

The Grand Rapids office said heavy snow with lake effects is possible over Thanksgiving weekend in some areas, including Holland.

It will likely rain through Tuesday before colder temperatures bring the chance of snow. Snow is possible from Thursday evening until Saturday.

Will it snow in Lansing on Thanksgiving?

“After some dull light rain on Monday and possible showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, colder temperatures with snow could delay travel on slick roads, possibly starting through Thanksgiving, and then likely continuing through the long weekend with heavy lake effect snow in some areas,” the weather service said.

Snow showers are possible in central Michigan starting Wednesday through Saturday.

How much snow will the Upper Peninsula get this week?

The Marquette National Weather Service office has issued a hazardous weather outlook for central and western UP.

“Snow developing tonight, especially after midnight, will lead to slick road conditions, especially in the inland Great Lakes in the western half of Upper MI, as 1 to 2 inches of snow may have accumulated by daybreak Monday the weather service said.

The agency said it expected 1 to 2 inches of snowfall Monday morning inland of the Great Lakes.

There is a chance of snow through Saturday, the service said. Highs for the week will be mainly in the upper 20s.

In Sault Ste. Marie, about 2 inches of snow is expected on Monday. The area could see snow again with an accumulation of a half inch on Tuesday and then continue throughout the week, the weather service said.

What will the weather be like on Thanksgiving in southwest Michigan?

Southwest Michigan, including Sturgis and Coldwater, will see rain early in the week, the northern Indiana weather service office said.

From Wednesday, the area could experience rain and snow showers, which turned into just snow. There is a chance of snow showers all weekend.

What will the weather be like in Port Huron and the Thumb?

The weather service office in Detroit/Pontiac is expecting rain through Monday night.

Tuesday and Wednesday it will be partly to mostly cloudy.

Starting Wednesday evening, you can expect a mix of rain and snow through Thanksgiving.

Snow is likely on Friday, with a chance of snow on Saturday.
