A massive outage at Microsoft has crippled Microsoft 365, impacting global users of Teams, Outlook and Exchange emails, calendars and more.

The Downdector website showed reports of outages that started overnight around 8am this morning, culminating in a massive spike of up to 4,350 complaints, most of them around Exchange. Microsoft provided updates throughout the morning on are.”

The tech giant said it has “begun implementing a fix” and in the meantime “is beginning to manually restart a subset of machines that are in an unhealthy state.”

By noon ET, it said, the fix had reached approximately “98% of our affected environments.”

Today’s problems follow a meltdown in July after a corrupt update by a cybersecurity company called CrowdStrike crashed systems and computers around the world running Microsoft Windows, including banks, airlines, trains, healthcare systems and other industries. A workaround then also required devices to be manually restarted.

Microsoft did not say what the “change” identified today was that caused the problems.
