Could Saquon Barkley actually win NFL MVP? Oddsmakers suggest so

Saquon Barkley has climbed the MVP odds rankings since posting a career-best game on “Sunday Night Football.”

The ex-Giant and Eagles star running back has skyrocketed to +500 odds to win the NFL MVP award at DraftKings, up from the 75/1 it was early last week on FanDuel.

He trails only Bills quarterback Josh Allen (+150) and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (+250).

Barkley totaled 302 yards and two touchdowns against the Rams in a career-best performance during the Eagles’ 37-20 victory.

The former No. 2 pick by the Giants in 2018 signed with the Eagles in free agency and will make $13.5 million this season and could earn another $3 million if he continues his stellar performance.

Barkley’s standout performance also saw his odds to win Offensive Player of the Year go from +120 on BetMGM to clear favorite status at -300 odds.

He was previously involved in a close race with a fellow free agent acquisition, with Ravens pursuing Derrick Henry.

Barkley is now expected to rack up 2,151 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, which would break the all-time rushing record in a single season.

Only eight players have run for more than 2,000 yards in a season, the most recent being Henry in 2020.

Eric Dickerson owns the record for rushing yards with 2,105 yards in 1984.

The MVP odds move comes just as The Post’s Doug Kezirian advised readers to bet on Barkley to win the NFL MVP award at odds of 75/1.

However, Barkley claimed that the award would be contrary to history.

Betting on the NFL?

A running back hasn’t won the NFL MVP award since 2012, when Adrian Peterson won after 2,097 rushing yards.

Should Barkley achieve that level of success in the City of Brotherly Love, it could be quite difficult to deny him the hardware.
