Meteorologists see a winter storm moving in from the Great Plains that could bring a Thanksgiving Day or post-Nor’Easter, bringing rain, snow and gusty winds across New England. The timing looks like most of Thanksgiving could get messy and much of Friday morning.

The latest models are a bit contradictory, with one showing the storm heading south of the region on Thanksgiving, while the other indicates the storm will make a direct hit. Regardless, there is good confidence that the jet stream will drop south enough to send the core of this area low to the coast as it approaches New England, creating a more impactful storm like a nor’easter .

A strong low-pressure system, a nor’easter, is simply a storm setting with winds from the northeast. That doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll get a lot of heavy snow or rain. Right now, it looks like mostly rain in Boston and most of Massachusetts, as well as Rhode Island and Connecticut, and snow in Western Mass. and to the north.
