Butterball turkeys recalled due to sexual abuse allegations this Thanksgiving? What we know

Butterball turkeys have not been recalled

An anonymous social media user, a PETA researcher, claimed that Buterball employees sexually assaulted turkeys. The accusation, from a 2006 investigation, sparked outrage against the poultry brand days before Thanksgiving. In the video, the person says they were undercover when they saw workers sexually assaulting the birds before slaughtering them.

The investigator then reveals details, claiming that workers handcuffed turkeys and inserted fingers into the birds’ cloacas, which they described as their “vaginas.” A video also emerged on social media showing a worker roughly handling a turkey while another appears to kick the bird. “I kicked the motherfucker out of the motherfucker.”

Another clip shows a worker sitting on a turkey.

PETA has launched an undercover investigation into… Butterball‘s Ozark, Arkansas location between April and July 2006. It was revealed that workers had sexually abused the birds.

“Nothing human has ever happened in a slaughterhouse,” Amber Canavan, project manager of the vegan campaign for PETA, told Daily Mail.

The investigator’s testimony stated: “One worker took a live bird and stomped on her head, crushing her skull until her head exploded. Then he laughed and wiped the blood from his leg. He also threw birds against it concrete and hit others.”

The Peta worker added that birds’ eyeballs were “popping out,” spines were “exposed” and limbs were “torn off.” “The workers at this factory were clearly not trained in animal welfare – some workers even bragged about their abuse,” she added.
