Grizzlies’ Ja Morant returns against Trail Blazers

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant will return from injury Monday night to play against the Portland Trail Blazers, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. Morant missed the last eight games due to a hip subluxation and multiple Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains he suffered during a game on Nov. 6.

Monday’s game in Memphis is the first meeting between the two teams since the Grizzlies trounced the Blazers, 134-89, at the Moda Center on Nov. 10. The Grizzlies won that game without Morant, Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart. All three of these players are expected to play on Monday.

Morant averaged 20.6 points, 9.1 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 4.3 turnovers in eight appearances this season.

Although Morant is good to go, both teams will be without their rookie centers on Monday. Blazers rookie Donovan Clingan is out with a left knee sprain, while Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey is out with an ankle injury.

Portland players Jerami Grant, Scoot Henderson and Kris Murray are questionable to play, while Deandre Ayton is questionable, according to the injury report the team released Sunday.
