Jack and Jackie Harbaugh will not be at HarBowl on Monday night

Jack and Jackie Harbaugh won’t be traveling to Los Angeles for “Monday Night Football.” They fly the other way to Florida to be with their daughter Joani, son-in-law Tom Crean and their two grandchildren.

Part of the reason is that they also want to celebrate Thanksgiving there the following Thursday. With the Ravens and Chargers both playing next Sunday, they are in the midst of preseason preparations.

Jack and Jackie visited Jim and his family in California for a few games. They were in Baltimore in late September for the Ravens’ big Sunday Night Football victory over the Bills. Now it’s time to visit their daughter.

“We choose to go there and celebrate Thanksgiving with them and be able to watch the game with them,” Jack said. “And we’re going to have a lot of fun and enjoyment doing that.”

Monday night’s game also coincides directly with Jack and Jackie’s 63rd wedding anniversary, something Jack thinks about when he remembers his sons’ travels. Long ago, Jackie took over as “head coach” of the family and their children, while Jack was the head coach of his football teams.

When asked why success followed his sons wherever they coached, Jack said, “Thank God for moms.”

“Go right back to Jackie. She was the head coach of them and still is,” Jack said. “They had me around, but she was with them 14, 15, 16 hours a day when they were growing up.

“In 1957, in biology class, I looked at row number one in that class and four years later we got married. That was the decision that changed my life. … We are so blessed to have Jackie with us and she is still the head coach of the Harbaugh family.”
