Live-action remake ‘Lilo and Stitch’ unveils Disney’s teaser trailer

Disney is ready to impress with the teaser trailer for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch.

Director Dean Fleischer Camp’s new version of the 2002 animated film will hit theaters on May 23, 2025. The leading roles include Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena. Rounding out the cast are Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance and Hannah Waddingham, while original voice stars Chris Sanders, Tia Carrere, Amy Hill and Jason Scott Lee return.

The Lilo & Stitch trailer shows the titular blue alien causing a bit of chaos on the beach. The first film focused on a girl from Hawaii named Lilo who adopts a dog that turns out to be a genetically engineered alien with nefarious intent.

Camp directed the new film from a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, which is based on the 2002 film co-directed by Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin serve as producers.

During an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote his directing work The wild robotSanders teased his return as the voice of Stitch.

“I was able to see a few things, and I can’t tell you what I saw,” Sanders said at the time. “But they also showed me some previews of what they wrote, and it’s really cool.”

Camp directed A24’s 2021 Oscar-nominated title Marcel the Shell wearing shoes.

Disney continues to prioritize its live-action remakes that focus on beloved characters. The prequel film from director Barry Jenkins Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters next month with Rachel Zegler directing Snow White is scheduled for release in March 2025.
