OKC Thunder storms past Sacramento Kings to start a four-game trip

(This article has been updated with new information.)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jalen Williams, reflexively raising his hand, quietly removed his three-point celebration from his forehead well into Monday’s fourth quarter.

He had been glued there for the entire period, and the ball he had released looked the same at the time. All 11 of his fourth quarter points, and all three of his three points, served as pins in Sacramento’s seven-game home winning streak against the Thunder.

The Thunder snapped that streak in a 130-109 rout of the Kings at Golden 1 Center.

Williams continued a ferocious run of games, being asked to expand his skills due to OKC’s string of injuries. Together with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who trailed by 37 points on Monday, the two buried the Kings with a lead of as much as 21 points.

Every one of their courage has been tested. Gilgeous-Alexander has challenged himself in Year 7 to expand his attacking skillset and be fully compatible with a big man like Isaiah Hartenstein. Williams has endured jump balls and eaten too many elbows to count.

Monday’s floor was their playground. Gilgeous-Alexander dabbled at the three-point line, drilling four of his seven three-point attempts and jawing along the way. He also dished out 11 assists, reading Sacramento’s traps that only intensified as they went along.

Williams, who scored 28 points, was a daring shot maker. This Sacramento skid, in which OKC hadn’t won a game since 2021, left the Thunder entering the fourth quarter needing some courage. Not a hero ball, but courage.

OKC’s star duo has delivered, even as the bodies continue to pile up on the injury report.

TIPOFF: Wednesday 9 p.m. at Chase Center in San Francisco (ESPN)
