Ariana Grande watches ‘Wicked’ with grandma

Bad is not only the number one movie in America, it brings families together.

Ariana Grande shared a beautiful video on her Instagram on Monday, in which Glinda the Good Witch herself watches the film in a theater in her hometown of Boca Raton, Florida, with her grandmother. “I flew to Boca for a day to watch with Nonna,” read a caption in one of her Stories. “The movie theater where I grew up, I went to Cinemark 20 in Boca every weekend.” Grande also tagged her half-brother, Frankie Grande, a Broadway and movie star in his own right.

“Happy to report that when the sugar glider had her drum solo, Nonna loudly exclaimed, ‘Oh, I love that,'” Grande wrote in another story, referring to a small, mouse-like marsupial that bangs on a pair of drums during one of the film’s magical musical numbers.

Grande noted that both photos came from Ethan Slater, her boyfriend, who also plays the munchkin Boq, a character who ironically becomes the love interest of Nessarose (Marissa Bode), the sister of Glinda’s rival Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo).

In the video Grande posted, Nonna the Good, real name Marjorie Grande, proudly watches part of the performance of the song “Popular.” Nonna, as Grande calls her in a nod to her Italian heritage, is a minor star in the Ari-verse and has appeared in three of Grande’s songs. Recently, Nonna closed Grande’s 2024 album Eternal sunshinewho provides the spoken word outro for the song “Ordinary Things.” In April, Grande took to Instagram to celebrate Nonna breaking a record for being “the oldest person to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100.”
