Robert Lewandowski: Barcelona striker reaches 100 Champions League goals

Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski has become the third player in history to score 100 goals in the Champions League.

Lewandowski scored a first-half penalty to give Barcelona a 1-0 lead in their group match against Brest on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old joins Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on the list of players with a century of European Cup goals.

Ronaldo scored 140 goals in 183 games for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, while Messi scored 129 goals in 163 games for Barcelona and Paris St-Germain.

Lewandowski reached the milestone in his 125th match – slower than Messi (123rd) but faster than Ronaldo (137th). However, the Polish forward’s current scoring rate of 0.8 goals per game is slightly better than the career figures of Ronaldo or Messi.

He has scored 21 goals in 19 games in all competitions this season, including 15 in 14 La Liga games.

Barcelona are currently four points clear at the top of the Spanish league and have played one match more than nearest challengers Real Madrid.
