Packages of tortilla strips are being recalled due to a possible mix-up in which the tortilla strips have been replaced with fried onions

Sugar Foods is recalling 3.5-ounce bags of Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style due to possible wheat contamination, according to a recall notice from the Food and Drug Administration.

A customer contacted the company on Tuesday and reported that a bag of tortilla strips contained the company’s Crispy Onion Strips, the FDA said. The onion strips contain wheat that the tortilla strips do not contain.

No illnesses have been reported so far, but the recall states that “people with a wheat allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.”

Details of the tortilla strip recall

The recalled tortilla strips have a UPC code 7 87359 17504 6 and a best before date of June 20, 2025.
