Ben Simmons contacted Joel Embiid to mend the fences

When Ben Simmons was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, he was one of the top players in the game. He was an All-Star in three of his four seasons in Philadelphia, was a member of the All-NBA Third Team in 2020 and was named to the All-Defensive First Team twice.

Unfortunately it ended terribly. In the summer of 2021, Simmons requested a trade, which then led to an ugly robbery and a bunch of other issues involving the Star Guard. Their relationship between him and Joel Embiid ended when Simmons was traded to the Brooklyn Nets for James Harden before the 2022 deadline.

Fast forward to the present: Simmons is a different player. Back injuries have robbed him of his athleticism and game-changing speed and he is nowhere near the player he once was. As he continues his career, he seems to be a changed man.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Simmons has reached out to Embiid to mend fences:

But so much has gone wrong for Simmons and his former team in the years they’ve been apart that Simmons’ presence in Philadelphia barely registered this time around. He had even reached out to Embiid and others last summer, league sources said, in hopes of mending fences. Simmons, who is in the final year of his contract in Brooklyn, has shown how he can still impact a game with his passing, length and defense. But in the second quarter of Friday’s game, he also missed the rim on a layup in a clip that quickly went viral — reminding everyone how his time in Philadelphia went wrong. Can they ever try to figure it out together again? One source called it unlikely, but stranger things have happened. Especially with the Sixers.

Don’t expect Simmons and Embiid to ever appear on the floor together again, but as Shelburne said, stranger things have happened.
