Tata Nexon will have three direct rivals in 2025

The Tata Nexon has been dominating the sub-4 meter SUV segment since its launch in 2017. Its fresh design, functionality, luxurious interior and affordability have made it popular among buyers. The availability of multiple powertrains and variants not only meets different customer needs but also maximizes profitability and gives the company a competitive advantage. Moreover, the Nexon is India’s first compact SUV to score a five-star safety rating in the Global NCAP. This compact SUV received its first midlife update in 2020 and its second major update in 2023.

The competition for the Tata Nexon is set to intensify with the arrival of three new models. Let’s take a look at the key details of these upcoming vehicles.

Kia Syros

Design sketch of the Kia Compact SUV

The Kia Syros (codename AY) will make its global debut in the coming weeks, while its market launch will take place early next year. This new subcompact SUV will draw design inspiration from the globally sold EV9 and the new Carnival. Spy images confirm that the Syros will have an upright and angular stance with high ground clearance. The headlights and daytime running lights will be inspired by the new Kia EV9, the South Korean carmaker’s flagship electric SUV. The test mule was spotted with two different two-tone 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Inside, the new Kia Syros will feature a Seltos-inspired digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. Some of the other key features include a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, traction modes, a Bose audio system, a climate control system and more. The ADAS suite could be offered exclusively with the higher trims. The Syros will reportedly come with multiple powertrain options, including an electric version at a later stage.

Next generation Hyundai location

Launch of the new generation Venue

Last month we saw the first spy images of the new generation Hyundai Venue. This subcompact SUV, codenamed QU2i, is expected to be launched in the first half of 2025. Although the spied test mule was fully camouflaged, its original angular stance was clearly visible. Most of the design changes will be inspired by the Creta and Alcazar facelifts. The split pattern headlamp cluster resembles that of the Creta, while the grille and bumper are wider and taller respectively. The prototype also included a module for ADAS. Some changes will also be made at the rear.

The interior will receive minimal updates. The dashboard will be redesigned and new trims and upholstery may also be available. The material quality can also be improved. The 2025 Hyundai Venue may come with a panoramic sunroof. The existing 1.0 liter turbo petrol, 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engines will continue with the generation change.

Skoda Kylaq

Front design of Skoda Kylaq

Bookings for the upcoming Skoda Kylaq will start nationwide on December 2, and deliveries will begin from January 27, 2025. The base variant of this subcompact SUV is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, while prices for the other variants will be announced later. The Kylaq features Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, along with design cues such as a Kushaq-style split headlamp setup with LED DRLs, a sleeker grille and a sporty front bumper with extensive cladding.

The interior also bears a strong resemblance to the Kushaq, including the dashboard design, two-spoke steering wheel, side air vents, climate control panel, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The subcompact SUV offers a luggage space of 446 liters (without luggage tray).

The Skoda Kylaq is powered by a 1.0 liter three-cylinder TSI petrol engine that produces 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic.
