Keenan Allen injury update: Bears WR’s severity revealed

Chicago Bears star wide receiver Keenan Allen went down with an apparent ankle injury in the second half of the team’s Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions. Fortunately, the injury does not appear to be serious.

On the next drive, with the Lions in possession, the CBS broadcast shared an update on Allen’s status, announcing that he would likely return.

“We saw Keenan Allen get rolled on that ankle and need help getting to the blue tent,” Tracy Wolfson said. “They looked at him from the inside. They taped up that ankle. He got out, went for a run and got the thumbs up from the athletic trainers. It looks like he’ll be heading back in after that ride.

At the time Allen left the game, the Bears were trying to come from behind to upset the Lions. At the time he went out, he had scored both of Chicago’s first two touchdowns in the comeback attempt.

Once Keenan Allen returned to the game, he made his impact felt with a catch on Chicago’s next touchdown drive. However, he would later be assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for throwing a ball at an official while frustrated by a call without a face mask.

Prior to the Thanksgiving Day game, Allen had already made his impact felt in the Bears’ wide receiver unit. He came in with 39 receptions on 71 targets for 368 yards and three touchdowns.

This is Keenan Allen’s first season with the Chicago Bears and his first career season not playing for the Chargers, be it in San Diego or Los Angeles. A former third-round NFL Draft pick Californiahe has been named to the Pro Bowl six times.

It’s been a rough season for Chicago, as it entered the Thanksgiving Day game with just a 4-7 record. However, the offense’s seemingly improved play is something the Bears can build on at the end of the season.
