    Radio stations play Christmas music, stores are overflowing with Christmas products, and Halloween candy is quickly replaced by candy canes and Reese’s trees.

    What is Black Friday?

    Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving and the first day of the holiday shopping season.

    During the heyday of brick-and-mortar stores, shoppers received incredible discounts from retailers. People saw the ads in the Thanksgiving newspaper and then planned their shopping for the next day.

    Retailers took advantage of the sale’s popularity to promote doorbuster deals and giveaways to the first customers through the door. The offers and giveaways kept shoppers lining up waiting for the doors to open.

    Retailers began moving store openings to midnight on Friday — so as not to disrupt people’s Thanksgiving holiday. Eventually, many stores opened in the evening on Thanksgiving.

    However, with the development of online shopping and the demise of retail chains, Black Friday began to lose its luster.

    Which stores are open on Thanksgiving and Black Friday?

    • Goal: All Target stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day. The shops open at 6am on Friday. From November 30 to December, the shops are open from 7 a.m. to midnight. 23.

    • HomeGoods: HomeGoods will be closed on Thanksgiving, but will reopen at 7 a.m. on Black Friday.
    • JCPenney: JCPenney will be closed on Thanksgiving, but will reopen at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.
    • Noordstrom: Nordstrom is closed on Thanksgiving and open early on Black Friday.
    • Cabelas: Cabela’s is open from 9am to 6pm on Thanksgiving and from 5am to 9pm on Black Friday.
    • Barnes & Noble: Barnes & Noble is closed on Thanksgiving. Customers are advised to check with their local store for Black Friday opening times
    • Tractor Supply Co.: Tractor Supply Co. is closed on Thanksgiving and open on Black Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Petco: Petco will be closed on Thanksgiving and reopen at 8 a.m. on Black Friday.
    • PetSmart: PetSmart is closed on Thanksgiving.
    • Staples: Staples is closed on Thanksgiving and opens at 9am on Black Friday.
    • Office Depot/Office Max: Office Depot and Office Max will be closed on Thanksgiving and reopen for regular hours on Black Friday.
