Conor McGregor’s accuser’s legal team says masked men invaded victim’s home and stabbed partner before trial

The woman who successfully sued Conor McGregor for civil damages arising from a 2018 assault, Nikita Hand, was forced to move after her property was invaded in June by a group of masked men wearing balaclavas and wielding weapons, several Irish nationals reported media friday.

The men also stabbed Hand’s partner and broke the windows at the front of her house, according to the reports which emerged in the aftermath of the proceedings at Dublin High Court.

Details of the attack were passed on to the High Court by Hand’s legal team before the civil trial began, in the absence of the jury, media reported. Judge Alexander Owens, who oversaw the civil trials, ruled that the evidence was not relevant to the case and should not appear before the jury.

McGregor was found liable for assault on Friday following a December 2018 encounter in Dublin. Hand, 35, claimed she was raped by McGregor and another man, James Lawrence, in a penthouse suite at the Beacon Hotel. A High Court jury awarded Hand damages of €248,603.60, but because it was a civil case and not a criminal case, McGregor will not face any criminal sanctions.

The jury found that Lawrence had not assaulted Hand.

During the civil proceedings, the jury was told that Hand made a claim for the costs of moving to another area in Dublin, but were not told why the claim was made. According to courtroom reports, the jury heard a brief reference to her move by Hand’s doctor, Frank Clarke, who told the court she had moved from the area because of “something that had happened.”

The jury also heard from valuer Patrick Sheehan, who valued the raided property in Drimnagh at €430,000. Sheehan was asked to price houses in ‘superior areas’ of Dublin, all of which were between €500,000 and €700,000.

Before the jury was sworn in, Hand’s senior counsel, Ray Boland, told the judge that her legal team wanted to introduce an event that was reported to have occurred on June 14. He described men wearing balaclavas forcing their way into Hand’s home and her partner suffering stab wounds while driving the intruders out of their bedroom.

He also stated that Hand’s young daughter called 999 to alert police during the invasion and that the intruders smashed the windows at the front of the house before the Garda arrived.

Boland insisted that Hand’s legal team “clearly did not lay that at the feet of the defendants (McGregor) or say they had anything to do with that,” but instead argued that it was not an untargeted attack and stemmed from supporters from McGregor.

Boland said they would have no qualms telling the jury they were not claiming McGregor had anything to do with it, but Boland claimed the attack was relevant to Hand’s claim she had to move from Drimnagh and relevant to her state of fear.

McGregor’s senior lawyer Remy Farrell said the burglary was something McGregor’s legal team knew nothing about before Boland’s statement and described it as an “extraordinary and unprecedented” claim for moving expenses.

McGregor continued to deny Hand’s allegations of sexual assault in a statement Friday and announced his intention to appeal the verdict. In his courtroom testimony, the former two-division UFC champion described his encounter with Hand as consensual, “athletic,” “powerful” and “protracted.”

The 36-year-old McGregor last competed in the UFC when he lost to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, suffering a broken leg. The UFC has not yet commented on McGregor being held liable for sexual abuse.
