Disney World reveals what replaces the iconic Rock’n’Roller Coaster

The Muppets take over from Aerosmith in Disney World’s latest attraction renovation.

The iconic “Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith” attraction located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a playful remake into a Muppets-themed attraction, Disney Parks Blog announced Friday.

“We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know that their energy is a perfect fit for this roller coaster,” Disney said. “Plus, as the first ever Disney attraction to feature The Muppets, there will certainly be laughs, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy during the adventure, and there will be plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”

No timeline has been shared for the closure of the existing attraction or the opening of the renovated attraction, but Disney said there is still plenty of time for park visitors to experience.

“Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster” opened in 1999 and stars the famous rock band Aerosmith. The ride underwent extensive renovations earlier this year and rumors have long circulated about what the future would bring.

The announcement is a positive for Disney fans who have long been asking for more representation of Kermit, Miss Piggy and the gang in the theme parks. The change also comes as Disney continues to see success with the 2023 Disney+ series, The Muppets Chaos.

And with the news, Disney also shared an update on what was previously announced Monsters, Inc. country, which was unveiled earlier this year at D23. The new country, and the first country it was ever dedicated to Monsters, Inc., will feature a suspended roller coaster that recreates the door safe scene from the film, shops, restaurants and a new theater show.

So guests can enter the magical city of Monstropolis, the new Monsters, Inc. land will replace the existing Muppets Courtyard. It is currently home to “Muppet*Vision 3D” and several eateries, including Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and PizzeRizzo, all of which will close to make way for the new development.

A long-time fan favorite, Muppet*Vision 3D opened in 1991. It is also one of the last projects Jim Henson worked on before his death. And Disney is already making preparations to preserve the attraction and Henson’s legacy.

“As we continue to make these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience so fans can enjoy them in the future,” the blog post said.

The news comes at a time of great change at Walt Disney World. Other reinvention projects include a new one Carstheme land is coming to Magic Kingdom and Encantothemed attraction to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.
