How Much Does Lainey Wilson Make for the Thanksgiving Halftime Show?

Thanksgiving is here! And once the cooking and cleaning is done, it’s all about the football matches. This year the NFL is giving us three matchups to watch, but the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game is a tradition that dates back to 1966.

This year’s game may not seem that exciting. The struggling Cowboys will take on Tommy DeVito and the New York Giants. The teams have combined for six wins. But before you turn on a Thanksgiving movie, there’s one reason you’ll want to tune in. Even if the game takes a nap, the halftime show won’t, thanks to country music star Lainey Wilson.

Lainey has the honor of performing The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show after Dolly Parton took the field last year. The event dates back to 1997 and past performers include Randy Travis, LeeAnn Rimes, Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan and Luke Combs. But you might be wondering: How much money is the NFL paying to bring in this kind of talent?

Because the event marks the official kickoff for The Salvation Army’s fundraising campaign, Lainey is not expected to earn a salary. After all, Dolly donated $1 million of her own money to support the cause at last year’s event. Plus, artists don’t even get paid to perform at the halftime show of the Super Bowl, so we don’t expect them to get paid for this smaller-scale event.

In her promotional video for the event, Lainey says, “You may know me for my baggy pants, but I also want to be known for my bell. I’m so excited to announce that I’m partnering with The Salvation Army to… hold after the holidays and make a difference in our communities all year long.”

If you want to see Lainey (and a surprise special guest), be sure to tune into the NFL game on Fox at 3:30 PM EST. The day will be filled with entertainment. Shaboozey will be on hand to perform at the Chicago Bears game against the Detroit Lions, and famed violinist Lindsey Stirling will take the field at the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers game.

Now we’ll just have to wait and see if Lainey will follow in Dolly’s footsteps and wear the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader uniform!
