Major status update for Georgia Tech star QB

One of the unique challenges that Georgia Tech presents is that they have started using two QBs. The saying goes that if you have two QBs you really don’t have one, but at Georgia Tech that may not be the case.

The Yellow Jackets have started using two quarterbacks as a way to keep opposing defenses on their toes, and they have been very effective at that as of late. The two QBs for Georgia Tech are unique in that one is used more as a runner and the other is used more as a passer. However, one of their quarterbacks may sit out tonight’s rivalry game for an abnormal reason.

A player in college football can play four games and still redshirt, so that year does not count toward his eligibility. And that’s exactly where Georgia Tech QB Aaron Philo currently sits with one game to go.

Philo has played in four games during his freshman season and while he has been extremely effective as of late, the Yellow Jackets’ staff could opt to sit him down for a season of eligibility.

This would make life a lot easier for Georgia Football and Kirby Smart as they now only have to play one QB on Friday night. And Philo happens to be playing the best ball of his career, so it would be nice not to have to play against him.

When Georgia Tech defeated NC State last week, Philo completed 19 of 33 passes for 265 yards. The week before, he had three for 65 yards and one touchdown in the Yellow Jackets’ upset victory over Miami (FL).

Now, none of these teams are on the same level as Georgia’s defense, but this still shows how well Philo has played. So hopefully Georgia Tech decides to sit him out because that would greatly increase UGA’s chances of winning this game.
