Matt Gaetz raises eyebrows with bizarre response to Trump’s Thanksgiving Day rant

Former Congressman Matt Gaetz remains a diehard Trump fan, even after the Florida Republican saw his bid to become attorney general in the new administration go up in flames.

“I will never love another president,” Gaetz, who resigned last week under a cloud of misconduct allegations, wrote on X on Thursday.

The reason for this praise was a response to Trump’s rather unorthodox Thanksgiving message, in which the newly elected president criticized “radical left-wing lunatics.”

“Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, including the radical left lunatics who worked so hard to destroy our country, but who have failed miserably and will always fail, because their ideas and policies are so hopelessly bad that the great people of our country simply gave a landslide victory to those who want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on social media earlier in the day. “Don’t worry, soon our country will be respected, productive, fair, and strong, and you will be proud to be an American more than ever before!”

Early in the week, Biden marked the holiday by performing his final turkey pardon on the South Lawn, granting reprieve to two turkeys named Peach and Blossom.

Gaetz announced last week that he would not seek attorney general nomination despite resigning from Congress after the Trump administration tapped him for the job. The nomination process was stormy, however, when a House committee questioned Gaetz about allegations that he paid for sex and had sex with a minor, which he strongly denied.

“I had excellent meetings with senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support from so many. While momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation unfairly became a distraction from the critical work of the Trump/Vance transition,” Gaetz wrote on social media about his decision. “There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted scuffle in Washington, so I will withdraw my name from serving as attorney general. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”

The former congressman added that he will not return to the House of Representatives but will continue to support the Trump administration.

In Gaetz’s place, Trump has chosen another proven loyalist as his candidate: former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Bondi is a veteran prosecutor and longtime Trump ally, having supported the president-elect during presidential campaigns and impeachment hearings. She also controversially passed over filing suit against Trump University shortly after a Trump foundation gave her a donation.
