Late Wednesday night, a shelter was in place at Fairleigh Dickinson’s Florham Campus in Madison as police searched for a person possibly armed with a gun.

“Stay inside the building, away from windows and doors,” said a warning on the university’s social media sites. “If you are outside, seek shelter immediately.”

Those on campus were told to remain in place until a completely clear message was sent through the FDU alert system.

Police were in the area surrounding the university looking for a person “who may be in possession of a firearm,” according to an alert from the school at 11:30 p.m.

No other information has been released by the university.
