John Krasinski, star of The office And A quiet placehas been mentioned People‘Sexiest Man Alive’ of 2024.

Stephen Colbert made the surprising announcement on his talk show Tuesday night, with Krasinksi taking the crown Grey’s anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, who won last year.

“I’m so proud to see my friend go from crazy, sweet boy next door to a big, dumb sex hunk,” Colbert said.

Krasinski played the role of Jim Halpert in the American version of the British sitcomThe office from 2005 to 2013 and more recently Jack Ryan starred in the Amazon Prime Video series of the same name for four seasons. He also had a brief Marvel cameo as Mr Fantastic in the MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Krasinski joked about the announcement with Colbert, explaining that the only person he told was fellow actor Matt Damon.

“The only person I slipped up and told was the day we did the shoot I went to Matt Damon’s birthday party,” Krasinksi explained. “When I walked in — yeah, name dropping, don’t worry about it — when I walked in, he was having such a fun birthday and I was late to the party. And he said, ‘Oh man, why are you late? For what?’ and I thought: ‘People Sexiest!”

The actor also announced that his Colbert performance will see him reprise his role as Jack Ryan in an upcoming film.

Krasinski has been married to actor Emily Blunt since 2010. The couple have two daughters: 10-year-old Hazel and seven-year-old Violet. Blunt revealed that their daughters are shielded from the public eye, tellingly The Sunday times in 2021 that they are “unaware” of their parents’ fame.

Dempsey, best known for his role as Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on the hit medical drama, previously earned the title in an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! last November.

Kimmel introduced Dempsey, who is also a race car driver, as one of the “founders of the handsome men club, which dates all the way back to 2010” and has now “risen to the top of the sexy mountain.”

When asked how his family reacted, Dempsey revealed: “They laughed. Quite difficult.”

People magazine has named someone the “Sexiest Man Alive” every year since 1985, with the inaugural title going to actor Mel Gibson.
