Just standing in the kitchen at home with my mother. Growing up, we sang together all the time. Like, at the top of our lungs. We harmonized and she had the most beautiful voice. She gave me the courage to go for my dreams. Even when I was scared. And I’m so grateful she did. But over the years I saw her lose her confidence to sing. Her stage fright took over. It was heartbreaking to see. And to this day I miss hearing her voice. I would give anything to hear her sing again. Now the tables have turned and this song is for her. And if seeing me as a delectable dessert on Thanksgiving gives her one day to do the same, that would be the icing on the cake.
