These are the retailers offering the best deals this holiday shopping season.

JCPenney, Macy’s offers the best Black Friday discounts

Online personal tax resource WalletHub examined more than 4,300 deals from 13 of the 2024 Black Friday ad scans from the largest retailers in the country and mapped the average discount offered by each retailer.

JCPenny ranks first in WalletHub’s “Best Places to Shop on Black Friday” rankings, with an average total Black Friday discount of 76.20%.

Shoppers at Macy’s can look forward to Black Friday discounts of 57.13%.

Walmart rounds out the top five, offering Black Friday discounts of 37.75%.

“JCPenney is the best place to shop on Black Friday as it offers an average discount of 76.2%. This is the sixth time JCPenney has ranked first in this report since 2014,” according to WalletHub’s findings. “If you’re ready to propose to that special someone, you can get a diamond engagement ring worth €18,749.98 for just $3,799.99.

Some big box retailers are offering fewer Black Friday deals in-store

While all the discounts on WalletHub’s Best Places to Shop on Black Friday will help you save money, there are several retailers offering fewer in-store discounts on Black Friday compared to their competitors.

Costco ranked last on WalletHub’s list, offering Black Friday discounts of 18.27% to in-store shoppers.

Target ranks ninth on WalletHub’s list, offering 28.65% off Black Friday in-store purchases.

  • Best buy: 28.43%
  • BJs: 28.86%
  • Home Depot: 32.43%

“Knowing which retailers are actually offering significant deals compared to their regular prices can save you a lot of time and prevent buyer’s remorse,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said in an email. “This year, the stores offering the best deals are JCPenney, Belk and Macy’s.”
