UNLV Rebels Betting Preview

UNLV has started the season with a 4-1 streak through their first five outings. The Rebels’ only hiccup came on Nov. 9 in an 80-74 loss to Memphis. Otherwise, they have been victories over Alabama State, Omaha, Pepperdine and New Mexico State.

On Saturday against the Aggies, the Rebels came out of the locker room with a three-point lead. UNLV went on a 35-31 run the rest of the way and took the win 72-65. Dedan Thomas led the team with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win.

Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting Preview

On the Mississippi State side, they also have five games under their belt. Every outing thus far has been a win for the Bulldogs. They have knocked off West Georgia, Georgia State, Southeastern Louisiana, Utah and SMU in succession.

In their game against SMU on Friday, the Bulldogs trailed 38-33 at halftime. However, Mississippi State went on a 51-41 run in the second half and ultimately took the win 84-79. KeShawn Murphy led the team with 16 points with seven boards.

Why the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels will win

  • UNLV has won five of its last six night games.

Why the Mississippi State Bulldogs will win

  • Mississippi State has won eight of its last nine night games against opponents not ranked in the AP.
  • UNLV has lost four of its last five games at neutral sites.
  • UNLV has lost the first half in four of its last five games against non-conference opponents at neutral sites.

UNLV vs Mississippi state prediction

I’m staying here at UNLV. The Rebels are coming off a gritty win against New Mexico in a game that featured 69 total free throws (42 for UNLV). The Rebels’ percentage from the line wasn’t great (71.4 percent), but the 30 extra points helped the team to the win despite shooting about 36 percent from the floor. UNLV has scored 72 or more points in all five games so far, including 80 or more in three of them.

As for Mississippi State, they didn’t score great against SMU itself (41.2 percent), but had just seven turnovers and managed a 37-33 rebounding advantage (16-6 offensive). The Bulldogs have scored 78 or more points in all five games this season, so if both teams are close on Thursday, we’ll be looking at a pretty high total. But ultimately, I like UNLV to get in coverage, as long as the Rebels can get that shooting percentage up a little this time.
