Paddy Pimblett moves into top 15 with UFC 304 win

Six fights into his UFC career, Paddy Pimblett has a ranking number next to his name. Pimblett, who has received $200,000 in fight-night bonuses, is now the No. 15-ranked fighter in the official UFC lightweight rankings, thanks to his first-round submission victory over Bobby “King” Green on the main card of the recent UFC 304 pay-per-view event. Other winners on the card who made moves up the rankings include interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, new UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad and Arnold Allen

Pimblett (22-3) was unranked for UFC 304, but his opponent was the No. 15-ranked 155-pounder for the event. Pimblett took down Green with authority on Saturday, capitalizing on Green hitting a takedown in the first round. Pimblett jumped into a guillotine choke as Green fired, then moved to a triangle choke that knocked Green out at 3:22 of the first round. The UFC awarded Pimblett $200,000 in bonuses for his efforts, and the rankings team moved him up to No. 15 in the division. Pimblett is now 6-0 in the UFC.

Allen (20-3) opened the UFC 304 pay-per-view card with a decision win over Giga Chikadze. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak for Allen and moved him from No. 6 in the rankings to a tie at No. 5 with Movsar Evloev.

In the evening’s co-main event, Muhammad pulled off an upset against reigning welterweight titleholder Leon Edwards. Muhammad (24-3-1) extended his unbeaten streak to 11 in a row with the win, capturing the 170-pound belt with a masterfully executed game plan. The victory catapulted Muhammad into the pound-for-pound rankings at No. 6. As for Edwards, who lost for the first time since December 2015, he is now the No. 1 ranked UFC welterweight. Edwards also dropped three spots in the pound-for-pound rankings to No. 7.

The main event of UFC 304 saw Tom Aspinall defeat Curtis Blaydes by knockout 60 seconds into the first round. With the win, Aspinall retained the interim UFC heavyweight crown and moved up two spots in the pound-for-pound rankings to No. 9. With the loss, Blaydes dropped to No. 5 in the UFC heavyweight division.

Next up on the UFC schedule is UFC Abu Dhabi, which takes place on Saturday, August 3 at the Etihad Arena.
