A 15-year-old boy was arrested by police on Saturday afternoon after a knife attack in West Germany left three dead and eight injured.

The teen was arrested after a major manhunt. Police said he was not the alleged attacker, but was being held in connection with the attack.

A second arrest was made on Saturday after a police operation at a refugee shelter in Solingen.

The victims of the attack are two men aged 67 and 56, and a woman aged 56.

Eight others were injured, four of whom are in critical condition.

According to Thorsten Fleiß, a police spokesman, the attacker specifically targeted the necks of his victims.

“After reviewing the initial images, we believe it was a very targeted attack on the neck,” he said at a news conference.

The motive for the attack, which sent shock waves through the country, has not yet been established and terrorism has not been ruled out.

Although Islamic State claimed responsibility, no evidence was provided to support this claim.
