Minnesota Weather: Very Hot and Humid, Severe Storms Monday Night

An extreme heat warning is in effect all day for the Twin Cities metropolitan area, with severe storms possible Monday evening.

Weather forecast for Monday

The morning fog will likely turn into plenty of sunshine in the afternoon and into the weekend, making it very hot, humid and tropical.

An extreme heat warning is in effect for the Twin Cities metro area and areas to the south and east until at least 8 p.m. Monday. The high in the metro area during the day is 91 degrees, but the heat index could rise above 104 degrees.

Two rounds of severe scattered thunderstorms are possible on Monday. The Twin Cities metropolitan area and much of central and southern Minnesota are under a Level 3 Enhanced Risk for severe weather, and parts of northern and southeastern Minnesota are under a Level 2 Slight Risk.

The first round of storms could arrive around 5 p.m., but for the Twin Cities metropolitan area, it will likely be closer to sunset. The potential second round will arrive overnight and early Tuesday morning. These storms could bring baseball-sized hail, 75 mph winds and isolated tornadoes.

Looking ahead

The threat of severe weather will be over by Tuesday morning, but there will still be a few showers possible in the afternoon. It will be a lot cooler on Tuesday with a maximum temperature of 81 degrees, but it will still feel relatively humid.

Temperatures will continue to cool throughout the week, and humidity will decrease after Thursday. Labor Day weekend looks beautiful, with highs in the mid to high 70s.
