Davis returned the ball 13 yards to the Utah 43-yard line, putting the Utes in solid field position.

What a first match for Cam Rising, and his night is already over.

He threw for five touchdowns and 254 yards on 10 completions in the first half, a personal best, before leaving the field in the final minute of the first half.

Utah outgained SUU by 339 yards to 84 yards in an utterly dominant performance.

True freshman Isaac Wilson came on in the final 30 seconds of the half in relief of Rising. Although he struggled, giving up a sack and throwing an interception, he should get more chances to show what he can do in the second half.

This time, for the third time this half, a big thank you goes to Brant Kuithe, who took a pass inside the 5-yard line, fought through two tackle attempts, then spun over another defender and fought past yet another defender to score with a pass from 11 yards. Utah 35, Southern Utah 0.

The Utes’ fifth drive was kept alive by a pass interference on SUU on a fourth-and-12 inside the T’Bird 40.

Rising has thrown for 254 yards and five touchdowns, and added 25 rushing yards. No, he’s not sliding, much to the chagrin of fans and coaches who fear another injury.

Kuithe now has four catches for 69 yards and three touchdowns.

That’s four touchdown passes for Rising — and 229 passing yards. He now has 50 career touchdown passes, fourth in Utah history.

11:27 — The rout has begun as Cam Rising and Brant Kuithe score another touchdown.

This time, Kuithe snuck through the middle unnoticed and Rising gave him an easy touchdown pass of 18 yards. Utah 21, Southern Utah 0.

The Utes moved the ball 48 yards in three plays after starting the drive on a short field following a short SUU punt.

14:48 — That gives Cam Rising and Brant Kuithe their first connection in nearly two years — with a touchdown.

Utah ran play action on third-and-1 and Rising hit an open Kuithe over the middle for a touchdown, giving Utah a two-score lead. Utah 14, Southern Utah 0.

Rising, who already had more than 100 passing yards that night, passed Alex Smith for career touchdown passes at Utah with the score and now has 48.

0:00 — Utah is back on its second drive after SUU failed on fourth down in Utes territory.

The Utes totaled 128 yards of offense in the first quarter, including 92 passing yards and 36 on the ground.

The T’Birds meanwhile had 60: 21 in the air and 39 on the ground.

08:46 — Utah’s first score of the year came on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Cam Rising to Dijon Stanley, his first TD as a Ute. Utah 7, Southern Utah 0.

Rising hit the wide open Stanley on the wheel route and the running back did the rest to give Utah the lead on the first offense.

Rising completed 3 of 5 passes for 75 yards and ran for 11 yards on a keeper during the drive.
