2nd quarter

09:07: After forcing a 3-and-out, UMass transfer Kay’ron Lynch Adams ran 63 yards up the middle for a touchdown on the Spartans’ first play. Michigan State 16, Florida Atlantic 0

11:15: Michigan State’s first touchdown of the season is an 11-yard Aidan Chiles run on third down, set up by good field position from the MSU interception. Kay’ron Lynch-Adams was robbed of a touchdown on the play before that by an early whistle for lack of forward progression, but the Spartans still get into the end zone. Michigan State 9, Florida Atlantic 0

12:03: Two consecutive interceptions by the MSU Defense. This time Nikai Martinez plays in the middle to intercept a Fancher overthrow and then returns it over 40 yards to inside the FAU 20-yard line. Michigan State 2, Florida Atlantic 0

12:55: The arm talent is clearly visible in Aidan Chiles, but he hasn’t exactly been sharp in this first half. Two incomplete passes on that drive make it a 3-and-out for Michigan State. Michigan State 2, Florida Atlantic 0

13:50: FAU marches down the field on its third drive thanks to two personal fouls on Michigan State’s defense for hits to the quarterback. The second resulted in an expulsion for Michigan State’s Malik Spencer and brought FAU inside the MSU 25. But Angelo Grose intercepts Fancher to end the drive. Michigan State 2, Florida Atlantic 0

1st quarter

1:40: Michigan State drives 41 yards in 10 plays, with two completions to tight end Michael Masunas and the first catch of his career by freshman Nick Marsh. But the ball ends up at FAU’s 11-yard line on a fumble by Montorie Foster Jr. Michigan State 2, Florida Atlantic 0

07:49: Michigan State’s first points of the season come from a safety. D’Quan Douse goes up the middle and sacks FAU’s Cam Fancher deep in the end zone. After two drives, MSU’s defense has given up zero yards, recorded two sacks and scored two points. Michigan State 2, Florida Atlantic 0

08:24: Michigan State’s offense shows some life with a 15-yard Aidan Chiles completion and a 12-yard Nate Carter rush, but the second drive stalls in FAU territory. Ryan Eckley makes a masterful run to beat FAU at their own 1-yard line. Michigan State 0, Florida Atlantic Ocean 0

1:00 PM: A strong early showing from the Spartans defense doesn’t hurt the Chiles interception. The Spartans stopped two runs, then Khris Bogle recorded a third-down sack to force a run. Michigan State 0, Florida Atlantic Ocean 0

14:53: An ominous start to Aidan Chiles’ Michigan State career. He throws an interception on the Spartans’ first offensive play of the season — though Montorie Foster didn’t help. Michigan State 0, Florida Atlantic Ocean 0

7:00 PM: The only person listed on the injury report is defensive lineman Avery Dunn. Among the others not dressed: LSU DB transfer Jeremiah Hughes and others.

6:20 pm: Kick-off has been delayed by nine minutes to 7:10 p.m. due to lightning in the area.

EAST LANSING – They’re still wearing green and white and playing in Spartan Stadium. But the players and coaches on your screen might not look so familiar on Friday night.

Michigan State ushers in a new era for its football program when it plays its first game of the season against Florida Atlantic in East Lansing (7 p.m., BTN).

Aidan Chiles will step in at quarterback, one of 61 new faces on a revamped roster led by former Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith, who is tasked with turning around a program that went 4-8 last year and fired coach Mel Tucker.

What does all this change mean for Michigan State? We’ll find out Friday night.
