Migrant gang taking over Colorado apartment complex ‘not an isolated case,’ says former resident

Shocking doorbell footage showed a group of heavily armed Venezuelan migrants attempting to break into a Colorado apartment. The suspected gang members have since overrun the apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, but a former resident says the takeover is “not an isolated incident.”

“This is absolutely not an isolated incident, unfortunately. I have months, almost a year and a half of footage from six different cameras,” former Aurora apartment complex resident Cindy Romero said Friday on “America Reports.”

According to Romero, residents of the apartment complex were on “high alert” after seeing multiple individuals with weapons in an adjacent building early in the morning.

“I had seen multiple individuals carrying assault weapons up to the next floor of the building next to mine. And I reported it to the police. So the whole day we were nervous and definitely on edge because they told us that they really couldn’t do anything unless something happened. And we waited the whole day for it to happen, and we knew it was coming,” she said.

Romero added that despite calling police early that morning, they could not act “unless something happened.”

“The reason was that there was an investigation going on that they didn’t want to get involved in. I assume there was some kind of surveillance going on. But they never showed up. And then that night when the shooting happened, around 11:20 that night, we called 911 again in a panic, please come help. We didn’t get a response for an hour and a half,” she said.

Several men, armed with handguns and one with a rifle with a telescopic sight, were filmed bursting through the door of the apartment complex for unknown reasons.

The group appears to be Tren de Aragua, or TdA, a transnational gang based in Venezuela. The gang, which reportedly has 5,000 members, has as its motto “really until the death” or “really hasta la muerte.”

TdA is now linked to more than 100 crimes across the country, according to a report from the New York Post.

“On that particular day, it was really bad,” said Romero, who said she and her husband were home when the gang stormed the apartment across the hall.

The takeover of the building ended with shots and bullets flying into vehicles.

“I have a bullet hole in my car. I only went in one side and came out the other side. I hit about five things on the way. My husband has bullet holes in his car too,” she added.

Since then, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman has confirmed that at least two apartment buildings within the city limits have been taken over by Venezuelan gangs. Some residents also confirmed to Fox News Digital on Wednesday that members of Tren de Aragua have been collecting rent from residents in at least one overrun complex.

Romero has since moved with the help of Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky.

“My first conversation with her, she said, ‘Do you still live there?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ And she said, ‘I’m going to get you out of there,’” Romero said.

Jurinsky has faced criticism for her stance on the apartment complex invasion, most notably from Colorado Governor Jared Polis.

“According to law enforcement information, this alleged invasion was largely a product of Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination,” a spokesperson for Polis’ office told the New York Post on Thursday.

“You can’t make a fake video and Polis wouldn’t last five minutes in that arena.” – Cindy Romero

Romero responded to the Democratic governor by saying, “You can’t make a fake video and Polis wouldn’t last five minutes on that property.”

“They don’t want to admit that they’re part of the problem,” Romero claimed. “It’s the government that we count on to make the rules for us, to make the guidelines that we follow. I call 911. No help comes for me. No help. There are no masses of police officers showing up to make sure we’re defended. No one showed up to help me.”

“I didn’t have a bulletproof vest. I didn’t have five officers coming with me if there was a problem. We were on our own and left to fend for ourselves.”

After the terrifying incident, Romero said she is “so grateful every day that I got out of it.”
