Coco Gauff continues her race for her US Open title today.

It was a close call, as the Delray Beach native lost the first set of her third-round match against Elina Svetolina on Friday. The 20-year-old tennis player recovered to advance to today’s round of 16 against compatriot Emma Navarro, who defeated Gauff at Wimbledon in July.

Gauff is ranked No. 3 at the US Open, while Navarro is ranked No. 13. Gauff has struggled recently after reaching the semifinals of three Grand Slams in a row. She was eliminated in the round of 16 at Wimbledon and has not advanced since. Gauff lost in the third round of the women’s singles tournament at the 2024 Olympics and recently lost her first match at the Cincinnati Open.
