NEWTON COUNTY – According to official social media accounts, Newton County (NCS) schools are in a precautionary lockdown.

This is in response to the tragic shooting that took place today in Barrow County at Apalachee High School, just 40 miles from Newton County. Multiple reports have confirmed that two people were killed in the shooting and four were injured as of 1:25 pm

According to the NCS social media post, this lockdown is being seen as “an exercise in extreme caution,” with no indications of an active threat on NCS campuses.

This means that no one is allowed to enter or leave the school buildings. There is also an increased police presence on all campuses.
