I really don’t want to be a spoilsport, but I’m not predicting the Philadelphia Eagles will win their Friday night opener against the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, Brazil.

That said, I predict the Eagles will finish 13-4 this season, so I’m not saying a Week 1 loss (and a narrow one at that) will be their undoing.

I think the Packers are a team on the rise, while the Birds have a little more uncertainty.

Maybe I’m not giving the Eagles enough credit. They’re coming off a very encouraging summer where these things happened:

• The team remained healthy (for the most part)
• Jalen Hurts looked better than ever
• New coordinators Vic Fangio and Kellen Moore showed some schematic wrinkles that inspired optimism
• Young players showed signs of improvement
• The vibes were positive

Maybe the Eagles are making fun of me if I choose against them in this situation.

But after the way last season ended, I’m not going to beat myself up for not giving them the full benefit of the doubt. Will anyone really be shocked if Jordan Love picks up where he left off last year and has success against this defense? Is it inconceivable that the coaching staff hasn’t completely solved all of the problems against the blitz? Is Nick Sirianni going to give his team an edge after he didn’t the last time we saw him coach?
