    Miami Police Release Footage of Police Arrest of Tyreek Hill

    Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was briefly detained and handcuffed by police Sunday morning near the team’s Hard Rock Stadium for a traffic incident. He was released and cleared to play in Sunday’s game. Miami-Dade police launched an investigation, assigned an officer to administrative duties and released body camera footage of the incident.

    According to NFL Network, Hill was pulled over for a minor traffic incident as he entered the stadium area. ESPN reported that he was pulled over for speeding and reckless driving.

    ESPN reports that Hill was handcuffed after a verbal confrontation with police, citing anonymous sources.

    Hill was given a traffic ticket, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN, calling the police’s handling of the matter “heartbreaking” and “baffling.”

    “Multiple teammates witnessed the incident and stopped to offer support,” the Dolphins said on Twitter, adding that all players involved are available to play in Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    Dolphins defenseman Calais Campbell was one of Hill’s teammates involved in the altercation and was also arrested by police prior to Sunday’s game, the Miami Herald reported.

    Rosenhaus reportedly told NFL Network on Sunday that he thought Hill would “clear his head, calm down and get through it,” and Hill did indeed play in Sunday’s game, scoring an 80-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

    Miami-Dade police said Sunday that an internal investigation has been launched and that one of the officers involved in the incident “has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted.”

    In a released clip of bodycam footage — which runs nearly two hours, the Miami Herald reported — Hill is seen being pulled from his car and wrestled to the ground after an altercation with officers over his window being rolled up.

    Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie Daniels said in a statement Monday that the footage was released in an effort to “reinforce the department’s commitment to informing the public” and that the investigation is ongoing.

    Rosenhaus reportedly told NFL Network that “this should not happen to a player entering his own stadium” and that “there is no reason why Tyreek should be treated this way.” He added that they will investigate further after the game to see what happened.

His conviction was expunged in 2018, but Hill came under renewed scrutiny in 2019 after his 3-year-old son broke his arm and child protective investigators removed the child from Hill’s custody. The Kansas City Star reported that prosecutors believed a crime had been committed against the child, but they couldn’t prove who did it, so no charges were filed against Hill.

    Some fans compared Hill’s arrest before Sunday’s game to the arrest of PGA player Scottie Scheffler, who was pulled over earlier this year as he drove onto the PGA Championship grounds.
