Alabama football earned the narrowest 42-16 victory in football history on Saturday, defeating South Florida at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Crimson Tide played poorly most of the way, pulling away late in the fourth quarter on the night the field was named after Nick Saban.

Much of the trouble stemmed from penalties and poor play by the offensive line for Alabama. The Crimson Tide returns to action next week at Wisconsin.

Following the game, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer will speak with local reporters in Tuscaloosa. Follow live updates here as DeBoer takes the microphone.

— DeBoer starts by tipping his cap to USF. Says there’s a list of things the Crimson Tide needs to clean up going forward. Says he told the team in the locker room they need to learn from what went right late in the game.

— Says Alabama players need to do a better job of preventing fumbles. Says he’s looking forward to the challenge and that teams “need games like this.”

— Asked what the Tide does in practice to eliminate turnovers, DeBoer says UA works hard on that on Tuesdays. Says it’s a focus every week, and players have to learn to put the ball away better while making big plays.

— Asked about not playing Elijah Pritchett until late. DeBoer says Tide wanted to rest him because of a minor injury. Says Alabama’s offensive line should be in better shape for next week’s game in Madison.

— The question is, what did he see when the game turned in Tide’s favor? Says Alabama needs to learn lessons about avoiding penalties. Gives Alabama credit for the turnaround because they were less sloppy. Says Tide didn’t have to sustain drives last week against Western Kentucky, and that will be important going forward.

— Asked how often he gets angry at the officials. He said he understands the game being labeled “tight,” and that he just wanted to make sure everyone was held accountable. Acknowledges most of the calls were correct.

— DeBoer is asked about Jam Miller’s passion as a running back. Says Miller is usually quiet, but comes into his own at key moments before games. Praises Miller’s running ability, especially his late touchdown.

— Asked about young players like Ryan Williams and Jaylen Mbakwe making big plays late in the game. Says Alabama’s core is made up of older players who have been in the program. Says he liked Jalen Milroe’s confidence in making a big throw to Williams on a hitch that led to a touchdown. Also praises Mbakwe’s confidence.

— Asked about Tyler Booker’s play as a left tackle and if not having him at guard limited Alabama’s run game. Says Alabama wasn’t on the same page with certain things, but Booker is an impact wherever he plays and he had confidence in Booker’s tackling ability.

— Says Cole Adams suffered an arm injury and Alabama will have to evaluate the situation going forward.

— Asked what Solid Finish said about Crimson Tide. Says he’ll never question Alabama’s will. Says there were players who pushed hard to make plays, sometimes too hard. Says Alabama needs less of that, more of just “staying in the fight.” Says he’s proud of late effort.
