Bodycam video shows Georgia school shooting suspect and his father being questioned by police in 2023

Newly released 2023 bodycam video shows teen accused of killing four people Apalachee High School in Georgia interrogated by the police together with his father.

The May 2023 interview, conducted more than a year before last week’s murder by a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy, deadly shootingcame after Foal Grey allegedly made online threats to “shoot up” a nearby high school. The teen’s father, Colin Gray, was also present at the interview, which was conducted on their porch.

During the interrogation, which was filmed by the officer’s bodycam, the teenager denied making the threat.

“I would never say something like that,” he told the deputy sheriff.

In the newly released footage, Colin Gray says his son knows how to deal with weapons

“He knows how serious weapons are, what they can do and how not to use them,” said Colin Gray.

After the hearing, the investigation into the threats was closed due to lack of evidence.

A few months later, in December 2023, Colin Gray reportedly gave his teenage son an AR-style rifle as a Christmas present. Police and federal agents are investigating whether that was the weapon used in the shooting, according to four federal law enforcement sources close to the investigation.

Now both are facing criminal charges. The teen has been charged with four counts of murder, and more charges are expected, officials said. Colin Gray was arrested the next day and was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter and eight counts of cruelty to children.

“These charges are based on the fact that Mr. Gray knowingly allowed his son, Colt, to possess a gun,” Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey said at a news conference after the arrest.

Other family members tried to sound the alarm about the shooting. Charlie Polhamus, the suspect’s grandfather, said his wife went to the high school to talk about her grandson just the day before.

The day of the shooting, the teen’s mother, Marcee Gray, called the school after receiving a text message from her son, Polhamus said. the boy’s auntAnnie Brown told The Washington Post that her sister texted her saying she had spoken to a school counselor and urged them to find her son “immediately” to check on him.

“She did call the school and tell them they needed to act quickly,” Brown told CBS News, without providing further details.
